Impact of Attempt in Usmle Step 2 CS for Residency
I logged on your website and God is great ....I am more relaxed. I want to subscribe your services for IM and Family practice requirements . Current thing is that I am jammed because of my CS result is pending. One more question I have If I Fail in CS first attempt and if i finish before NOV. Do i have still any chances remaining to get residency. How much 2nd attempt in CS affects chances for residency? Many of Univ doesnt require candidates who have 2nd attempt in step1 and step2. What does step2 mean in general Step2 CK or CS or combined together regarding attempts? I hope I tried to clear my self regarding explaining my problem. My Step1 is 80 (196) and CK is 90 (219) i finished graduation in 2006 from India.
Thanks once again and kindly please help me to get rid out of this annoying queries
Regards

I understand your situation and apprehensions. I think your step 2 CK is very decent and the step 1 score is not too bad even though it could have been better. Previously, when they had CSA as a separate exam, it used to be counted as not part of step 2 and programs did not have strict policy on attempts. Since they made it part of step 2, I think all those that were previously saying no to attempts would be considering the attempt in CS as an attempt in the step 2. However, given that about 25 to 30% of IMG's do fail in CS, it is not that uncommon and there are programs that do accept attempts. From a practical standpoint, many programs are more sympathetic to an attempt in CS than in the other exams. Residentscafe's program requirements will have the info that will help in choosing the right programs for you. Yes, you can take the exam again and still be able to go for interviews for this year since programs may still consider you based on the other scores while waiting for the result even though it might not be the best situation to get a lot of interviews. I guess, since you do not know the result, no point in worrying too much at this point. All the best.
