How to prepare myself for Residency?

Hi Prab,
I highly appreciate ur help ,which all of us are already getting through this forum.i am glad there are people like you out there who can contribute so much.Well keep it up and best of luck for ur future endevours.I recently got prematched at Fairview Hospital ,Cleveland Ohio for internal medicine.I will be starting my residency hopefully from 1st of july 2005.I have 6 months to go,plz guide me how i can utilize this time in the best way so that i can be well prepared b4 i start my residency.I graduated in 1998 and since then have not done any observership/externship here in U.S.A but have been working in clinics here and doing some database research.I have laready started reading wash manual big book(300 pages) as well as Internship survival guide from wash manual,i have started a excercise prog to gear up my energy level.what else should i do?just to let you know i am planning to do fellowship after my residency?i will appreciate if u plz tell me what else to read ,or do to improve my self b4 i start my residency?Thanks

Thanks a lot for the compliments and congratulations on getting prematched. I think you should relax and enjoy yourself since, once you start your residency, you may not get much time to do anything else. If you want to do anything in terms of travel, visiting friends, visiting other countries, or pending home or other projects, this is the best time to do so. As far as being ready for residency, I think you already have a great plan with studying Wash manual and the survival guide. If you have time, you may read Cecils or the bible - Harrison's principle of medicine, but Wash Manual should be enough for the most part. You can also read some current journals like NEJM etc. but I think you should relax and enjoy this period. If you want to make some money, let us know since we are looking for people who would work on some medical educational projects, which will help you both in medical knowledge as well as potentially make some money.
