changing specialities
Hi ,
I have been prematched for Family Practise at University Hospital. I actually wanted to do Surgery but couldnt get it. Now I am palnning to change speciality after ! year. I have scores in Low 80s and want to know what should I do to make my resume more stronger and effective so that I stand better chances next time. Also if I am on an H1 visa could i change specialities and how to convince the PD about it as i feel i am manipulating him. Any suggestions appreciated.[/b]

Since you are already doing an FP residency, one of the things you can do to strenghten your application would be to get some strong LOR's preferably from a Surgeon during your surgical rotation. You should also write a good PS explaining why you think Surgery woud suit you best and how your 1 year of FP would help deal with the common medical and prevetive issues Surgeons deal with in their patients. People change specialties all the time and it is a matter of convincing. Try to discuss with a friend and practice a nice argument as to why Surgery suits you best. As for the visa, it does not affect at all, except that you should make sure there is no period of gap between the visa's. Good luck!
You can do it, we can help!
