First I would like to say that this is the best residency forum I've ever seen!
My question is: Do I need to have any US clinical experience in order to apply for ob/gyn residency?
Hi,
Thanks for the compliments. To answer your question, no and yes. It depends on the program. Some may require it, some may prefer it while some others may not ask for it. It can, however, improve your chances to get into Ob/Gyn if you do have some USCE or even Observerships. One of our moderators made succesfully into OB/Gyn last year without great scores but with hard work and by being in constant communication with the programs. You can contact her for more advice. Her user name is archrajarao. GL!

It would help a great deal if you have some clinical experience, but its not a must .. if you have other plus points like maybe high scores, previous residency in ur country, publications, research experience etc.. Having said that, it would be great if you could get some experience while waiting for your residency to come through..Try to work in some Dr's office if you cannot get an observer's post at your local hospitals.. All the best!
Thank you so much for your response.
Dear Dr Img22, No you do not need USCE to apply for OBGYN. There are programs which do not require this. Equally, there are others who require some amount of usce before they even take a look at your application. All the best
