August, 2005 Dear General Surgery Applicant: We are pleased you are interested in applying to the General Surgery Training Program at The Ohio State University. A description of our training program, including the various specialties, can be obtained at: surgery.osu.edu In 2006 we will be filling four categorical and four preliminary positions. Our categorical positions are six years in length, including five years of clinical training and one year of research. Research may be done in basic science or clinical outcomes. This additional year reinforces our commitment to provide a well-balanced surgical education. We receive all applications through ERAS and our deadline is November 1, 2005. Applications received after November 1st will not be considered. Interviews will be scheduled in November, December, and January. We will select applicants for an interview based on our careful review of the following documents: 1) ERAS Common Application Form
2) Personal statement
3) Dean?s letter
4) 3 letters of recommendation
5) Medical school transcript
6) Transcript of USMLE Step 1 and/or Step 2 scores If you are an international medical graduate (excluding those trained in Canada), you must also meet the following requirements in order for your application to be considered for either the categorical or preliminary position: 7) Be eligible for ECFMG certification
8) Have spent at least one year (12 full months) in the U.S. in an accredited
clinical training program after medical school. (A research position is not
sufficient.)
9) Hold a J-1 visa (OSU does not permit H-1 visas) You will receive an e-mailed letter from our Program Director letting you know if you have been invited for an interview.
