Has anyone here interviewed in MMC last year? Got a call from them... really want to know how this program interview goes... and also... if it's not too much of a bother, m trying to study the bus system of NEW YORK.. but I'm lost... whats they best bus route to get to this hospital (located in Borough Park) from Flushing?? if I use a cab.. how much will that cost? thanks a million, will patiently wait for anyone's reply
Hey guys, The interview here is pretty laid back. The housestaff,PD and
faculty were very nice. we were about 20... half were AMGs from St George's, NYCOM, New York Medical College... and half were IMGs from India, Nicaragua, China, UK, Korea and 1 from the Philippines (ME!!!) The
interview started with breakfast, where the interviewees would get
to interact directly with the housestaff as well as people from the
faculty... this was followed by the interview itself (in my case, I
was interviewed by a faculty member and a 2nd year resident-
together) and a tour of the hospital, and a final wrap up after
lunch. The whole process is about 3.5 hours. Personally I think their interview was great. They ask general
questions - Why did you take medicine? Tell us about yourself? (I
stammered here btw.. hehe) What good qualities do you have that
makes you a good doctor? And yes they asked a clinical question,
which I didn't expect and had me going in circles... but the case
was clearcut... I think they want to know how you respond under
pressure...and how your mind works... that's why the do this. They
particularly like that I know how to speak Fookienese... as the
cultural diversity is enourmous.... The program I think is great, gives you autonomy... as well as the
supervision, but a very busy program (accdg to the residents) Their
computer facilities are great (Most wired hospital!) hehe... for a
706 bed urban hospital...it's pretty amazing! The only drawback is
the environment... Brooklyn-Borough Park... During closing, the associate PD discouraged prematches in this
program... he said that prematches are for the PROGRAM and not for
the candidates...
its better to ask questions and look like a fool ,
then not ask questions and remain a fool.................. all the best,

Hi Prab! I would definitely post my experience there... I am a message group moderator myself (IMG from the Philippines)... So I know the value of one's interview experiences are for future applicants... Thanks so much for that input...
Hi, I will answer this post on one condition, that you will come back and post your experience there! I interviewed there not last year but in 2003. It was a big hospital with a lot of Fellowships, better than most university programs even though it is officially a community program. Interview is pretty relaxed, there usually would be a lot of people interviewing the same day. There will be program presentation, tour and interview by 2 people as usual. Pretty relaxed, no medical questions usually unlike some of the not so great NY community programs that tend to ask medical questions. I drove, so I have no idea about the bus system there. I would let somebody answer that! You can check scutwork for reviews on this program. Remmeber to post your experience in the residentscafe interview experiences forum once you interview there!
