role of griseofulvin in tinea infections

hi ,i wanted to know whether oral griseofulvin still advocated in the treatment of tinea infections like tinea ungium and capitis or r the azole group of anti fungals superior to it? Dr.fisher has in his infectious ds lectures has mention that it is not used now because of the side effects and oral itraconazol is used instead of griseofulvin...please give me the current criteria...
UPTODATE for Tinea infections "Griseofulvin remains the drug of choice, although oral therapy with terbinafine or itraconazole are effective alternatives for resistant cases or for patients who are allergic to griseofulvin oral fluconazole also seems to have similar efficacy to griseofulvin. A meta-analysis suggested that terbinafine is at least as effective as griseofulvin for treating tinea capitis due to Trichophyton infections, while griseofulvin appears to be superior to terbinafine for treating tinea capitis due to Microsporum infections." As far as the USMLE exams are concerned, you will not be asked to differentiate between these two. They will only give one of these options since they are equally effective and as per UPTODATE, greseofulvin is still the drug of choice.
