How important is September 1st to start applying? I will not take Step 2 until end of August 2008, and will take about 3 to 4 weeks to get a score.. so I was thinking of applying via ERAS in October, 2008?
Also I am a 35 y/o applicant, Passed Step 1 with a 78/192, Passed Step 2CS (first attempt).
A US Citizen, an Ivy league undergraduate. Spent 6 years working for a Pharmacuetical firm in the USA. Decided to go to Med School and did the Caribbean route, have US clinical experience, but when I was 18 y/o was convicted with criminal possession of a weapon. This happened 17 years ago, accomplished this much so far, have received a Certificate of Relief from Disability, which reinstated my rights many years ago. Spoke with the state medical board and they said that granting a license should not be an issue, but is looked at by a case by case basis (meaning they have granted medical licenses in the past to those with a felony conviction).
What are my chances of getting a residency spot in anything (Int. Med or Family Practice)?
Best Regards,

Please advice What are my chances ??
Hi, Residency is a job
Residency is a job application. SO, they are looking for good residents that they can trust and depend for the patient care and work load to be done. Based on your step 1 score, it is a bit tough but not impossible to get interviews. Your age is not really an issue. You need to put together your story and try to convince the unique experiences you have with pharmaceutical industry etc. will bring in a perspective and experience to the table in morning reports and other discussions. It is all about convincing them at the time of interview and based on your post, I can say you can convince people! Do not worry about the thing that happend so long time ago, you will be able to get the license. You can even fight it if they cause any trouble. Apply to the right programs after checking residentscafe program requirements. You do not need a visa which is a plus point. You need to work on getting a better score in step 2 CK. Apply in September, it is the best time to apply! I really feel you will make it OK! Just do the right things at each step such as getting a good story like Personal statement, good LOR's etc. ALL the best!
You can do it, we can help!
