I am an IMG with Step-1 score 96(231) and step-2CK score 83(203) and Step-2CS passed on second attempt. What are my prospects og getting residency in internal medicine. Please help.
HI, Let me tell you how a friend of mine got into residency. He has scores of 75, 75, an attempt and needs visa. He went for the match and got 2 interviews, did not match, drove from program to program in the post match, used his contacts, got one interview in a psych program after much convincing the program coordinator. He conviniced the program director that he will be a good resident and got the position. The next year, he switched to internal medicine and moved on. He is now an attending physician. I also know of others that have low scores and or attempts but managed.

The key is, to believe in yourself, try to be very persistent, get strong US LOR's, do observerships, research etc, and apply to the programs that are IMG friendly after checking RCC lists, and you will make it. Each person's path may be different in how they get into a residency, but if you work hard and be persistent, you will make it. Apply to IM and also a few other specialties if you will, and do the right things, get a very good and engaging, story like Personal Statement since they can make or break your application. All the best.
