A 20 y/o woman presents to ER with lightheadedness,

By HL - Posted on 29 June 2004

A 20 y/o woman presents to ER with lightheadedness, headaches & nausea which started 20 min ago. She appears anxious & is sweating & breathing heavily. While waiting in ER, she begins to complain of tingling around her mouth & fingertips. What?s the first step of Mx?
a- immediate IV infusion of 50 ml 50% Glc
b- immediate IV infusion of Ca gluconate
c- order head CT
d- ask the px to breath into a paper bag
e- send blood & urine sample for possible alcohol & drug abuse
f- check urine chathecolamines
g- LP
I think she should be asked to breath in a plastic bag, by which her hyerventilation will be reduced and symtoms will decrease.
