Thank you for contacting our program regarding our residency application requirements.
The most important aspect for international medical graduates applying to our program is that you must have an ECFMG certificate by the application deadline of November 1, 2004. If an applicant is not a US citizen or permanent resident, a J-1 visa is required. Otherwise, all applicants must provide the same documentation for their application: 1) a full transcript from their medical school that indicates the grades received (not hours served), 2) a Dean?s letter giving an overall assessment of your academic performance while in medical school, 3) two letters of recommendation from faculty who have worked with you closely?one of these letters must be from an obstetrician/gynecologist, 4) a report of your USMLE scores from the Federation of State Medical Boards.
Your exam scores are factored into the Selection Committee?s decisions regarding interviews but are not given greater weight than other factors. While our program does not have minimum score requirements, applicants who are offered an opportunity to interview here generally score between 200 ? 225 on Part I and 210-230 on Part 2, passing the exams on their first attempt. Applications must include all of these items in order to be considered complete and referred to the Selection Committee.
We do not require prior US experience, although it is helpful. The further you are chronologically from your medical education, the more important real-world clinical experience becomes (regardless of where that experience takes place).
Our program only accepts applications via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) which you will be able to access through the ECFMG beginning in September, 2004. We have an informational web site at www.obgyn.ufl.edu and a program brochure which I would be happy to mail to you if you would like to reply with your mailing address.
Please let me know if I can provide any additional information about our program.
Sincerely,
Mary Latham
