Do I apply for a Surgery residency
I am an older IMG with 19 years of experience in surgery(the last 14 years in Pediatric surgery in India and the UK). I am 41 years old.
I have recently sat my first 2 steps and scored 99 on both. I do my cs2 in 2 weeks time.
What are my chances of landing a surgical residency with a H1B?
If the chances are good - what are the steps in applying? I am a bit of a novice in this.

Your scores can't get any better and for surgery, experience is everything! I think Surgery is getting less competitive and it should not be that difficult to get in with your credentials. The process is pretty much the same as for any other match - apply to the programs via ERAS etc. As for the programs that sponsor a H1 visa, we are currently compiling a list of program criteria with all the Surgery programs in the US but that is an ambitious project that will take some time. You can contact the individual programs and ask them for their criteria and any visas they sponsor. A general rule of thumb is - if they sponsor visas for other specialities in that hospital such as for IM, they may do the same for Surgery also! Believe in yourself and apply to Surgery! You will get it! Good luck!
You can do it, we can help!
