Hi, Can you please help me find answers to this type of questions? 1]How would you redesign the health-care system?
2]As an international medical graduate (IMG), what differences do you see between the health care delivery systems of your country and America?
3]What do you think about house-staff unionization?
4]How will you deal with the possibility of being sued? Thanks.
Hi Prab, Thanks.
Now i got some idea how to answer these questions. Mythri
Hi,
1]How would you redesign the health-care system?
The best way is to go to Bush's or Kerry's website and see how they are going to do it because it is a question for the president of the US. They never asked me this question even though it may be asked. In general, have a concept of health care sytem that you think works like for ex. socialized system like the Canadian medical system and try to reason how you can apply it in the US. 2]As an international medical graduate (IMG), what differences do you see between the health care delivery systems of your country and America?
It depends on your country but most of the time, you can talk about the defensive practice of medicine in the US and how so many tests might be ordered here because of the legal pressures and how clinical skills may not be utilized as much. Also on more and more reliance on technology deviating, in a way, from the basics. 3]What do you think about house-staff unionization?
Again, it is a personal opion and they are not asking you this to see what kind of trouble they might expect but to see you talk and formulate your ideas.I would say - House-staff unionization may sound negative but it is a great way to provide feedback, suggest improvements and negotiate any issues that migbt have an element of Conflict of interest. You can try to argue for or against and as long as you make sense, you are doing fine.
4]How will you deal with the possibility of being sued?
Again, the issue is - how you express yourself. First, talk about how communication gaps and misunderstandings play an important role in many of the law suits. If you did a mistake, arrange a meeting with the patient and explain what exactly happened, the consequences, what can be done to help the patient and how you are going to make sure it will not happen again. Having said that, you can say I am going to defend my actions so far as I was medically doing the right thing and accept responsibility for my mistakes. Again, the point is - how you express yourself and how will deal with situations like this! Gl!

hi, Thanks for the reply.
yes, these are from sample intervivew questions. I tried google searching i couldn't find the answers so i posted them here. anyway i will try again. mythri.
Those questions are from the sample interview questions, arent' they? Anyways, I'm not very familiar with the US health care system either and all I know so far is that if one doesn't have private insurance then he's either on Medicare or Medicaid, both of which are provided by the federal government.... I think. Anyways, I've been planning to research on that topic myself and I was planning to just search for the answers on Google or some link from the website of the department of health (I'm not even sure if that's what it's officially called). Try Googling for the answers Mythri. If I come up with anything, I'll post it here.
