This website residentscafe was started by me when I was a resident in 2004 and over the last few years, we have helped over 6000 medical graduates that graduated from American and Foriegn medical schools to get into a residency of their choice by providing information, guidance and valuable advice. FAQs about Residency Program Requirements Online! sticky icon

Most of These are actual querries posted in various other threads. We assembled some of them into one place for the benefit of our users.

See what a program coordinator says:

Apply Early or it will cost you an year! sticky icon

Applying Early vs Late for the Match. If you apply late - let us say in Oct/Nov/Dec. The program will have 500-2000 applications by that time. The secretary finds it hard to find place to keep all these files organized in her office. She hardly will have the time or interest to consider new applications. The deadlines of most programs are over by Oct/Nov. So they may not look at your application. Even if they look at your application, they will say, we are sorry all our interview slots are filled. If you apply early, say in September...
You may have less exam results than you wish to have on the application. But you can call the program or email them as and when something changes in your status. They will automatically get the results via ERAS, anyway.

Sample Residency Personal Statements organized by specialty

Many IMG's do not realize how important a personal statement is to the overall application. While I was a resident, I asked my residency program coordinator what makes her to call somebody for an interview and whether scores is all that matters. She said a good score can only get her to open the file.

Match day experiences - a very nice video from the University of Louisville

This is a nice video from the University of Louisville about the experiences of some of their medical students on the match day.

Observerships

If you are looking to get into a US residency, you need some exposure to the American Health System. One way to do this is to do observerships. However, many IMG's find it very difficult to secure one. For a limited number of applicants, I might be able to help find a place to do observerships.
