Chances of acceptance?

How important is September 1st to start applying? I will not take Step 2 until end of August 2008, and will take about 3 to 4 weeks to get a score.. so I was thinking of applying via ERAS in October, 2008? Also I am a 35 y/o applicant, Passed Step 1 with a 78/192, Passed Step 2CS (first attempt).
